For the Mushroom & Onion Gravy:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval-shaped patties.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the patties to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Transfer the patties to a baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until fully cooked.
- While the patties are baking, prepare the garlic mashed potatoes. Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring the water to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the milk, butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, and mash until the potatoes are smooth and creamy.
- To make the mushroom and onion gravy, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the sliced mushrooms and onions and cook until they are soft and golden brown.
- Add the flour to the pan and stir until well combined.
- Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly, until the gravy has thickened.
- Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the Salisbury steak with the garlic mashed potatoes and mushroom and onion gravy spooned over the top.
