Chinese pepper steak

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 bell peppers (red and green), sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Steamed white rice, for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, toss the sliced flank steak with the cornstarch until well coated.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.

  4. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
  5. Add the sliced bell peppers, onion, and garlic to the same pan and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, sesame oil, and black pepper.
  7. Pour the sauce over the vegetables and bring to a boil.
  8. Add the cooked steak back to the pan and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until the steak is heated through and the sauce is thickened.
